Heart River Housing offers family housing across 10 communities.
These units provide subsidized rates for low to moderate income families.
Applicants are given priority based on need, as determined by income, assets, and current housing condition. (Please refer to “Core Need Income Thresholds” under tenant information).
As per Social Housing Accommodation Regulation 244/1994, a tenant's rent, which includes heat, water and sewer, is based on 30% of a household's adjusted monthly income. The tenant is responsible for electricity, telephone and cable/satellite. Rates and eligibility are reviewed annually.
- Rent is based on 30% of gross total combined household income.
- Heat, water, waste removal and sewer costs are included in the rent
- Electricity costs are charged to the tenant.
- Household incomes and circumstances are reviewed annually by HRH to determine continued eligibility and the rent amount for the coming year.
- Tenants are responsible for advising HRH of income changes and changes in household composition, throughout the year.
Private Landlord Rent Supplement ProgramThe Private Landlord Rent Supplement Program is a provincially subsidized program, which allows seniors, individuals and families to rent from a private landlord at 30% of their income. A subsidy is provided through Heart River Housing directly to the Landlord for the balance of the rent.
An applicant who finds a private Landlord willing to accept or keep them as a tenant under this program is welcome to apply to have the rent subsidized. Heart River Housing works closely with a number of private landlords in our contracting communities with this program. Currently, we have an allotment of 83 designations with 35 private Landlords.
Household income is reviewed annually by Heart River Housing. Applicants are required to complete a standard application for accommodation form.
Direct Rent Supplement (DRS)The DRS subsidy is provided directly to the recipient. The landlord is not involved in this type of subsidy program. Applicants who qualify for this program will receive a monthly rental subsidy (maximum $400.00) to assist them with paying their rent. Generally, recipients must pay 30% of their income towards their monthly rent and the program will pay the balance of the rent owing provided that it does not exceed the allowable maximum according to their needs. Monthly proof of rent payment is required.

The Affordable Housing Program offers rental units at a set monthly rate.

A tenant's rent, includes heat, water and sewer, rents are adjusted to be 20% below market rent. The tenant is responsible for electricity, telephone and cable/satellite. Eligibility is reviewed annually.
